Covid vaccine mandates are bad policy, says a medical researcher, arguing that generally the vaccines are demonstrably ineffective.

(Scroll down for video and AI summary.)

Except for the vaccines deployed against the first wave of covid known as Alpha, covid vaccines "basically just don't work," says Jacob Rich, a Cleveland mathematician and medical researcher.

He arrived at that conclusion following a study, which has now been reviewed by peers, of workers at a Cleveland health clinic, where he also works.

Rich saw the result as carrying a major policy implications:

+ Forcing people to be vaccinated makes little sense, especially when officials are unsure about their effectiveness.
+ If a disease poses a real existential threat, people will seek vaccination without government prodding or mandates.
+ People who have covid but have no symptoms are not very good sources of contagion.
+ Forcing young people to be vaccinated is senseless, as hardly any with the ailment get more than mild symptoms.

The new vaccines did not go thru the usual FDA approval process, Rich noted. They were not tested in advance on representative samples from the general population, he maintained. "It was assumed that they were going to work." But his research and other studies show that the vaccines are ineffective, he said.

"The idea that the FDA can arbitrarily decide which types of vaccine go out... I don't understand why anyone would actually force someone to get a vaccine that wasn't shown to be effective."

He added, "And I don't completely understand the criteria of choosing which types of pharmaceuticals don't need to go thru the entire FDA approval process, especially where the technology is new: mRNA."

Rich urged that the burden of proof that vaccines are effective belongs with the pharmaceutical industry. That standard was bypassed amid the crisis mindset of officials.

Rich is associated with Reason Foundation, which publishes the libertarian magazine Reason. The Rising host Robby Soares is an editor of that periodical.

Cleveland Clinic Study DESTROYS Argument For Vax Mandates: Expert

00:03 Study on COVID-19 Vaccine Efficacy

Section Overview: In this transcript, Jacob Rich, a researcher at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute and a policy analyst at the Reason Foundation, discusses a peer-reviewed study that raises questions about the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines. The study specifically speaks to the B.1.1.7 lineage and how various types of vaccines affect the probability of catching COVID-19.

Study Details

00:21 The study finds that the risk of COVID-19 varies by the number of vaccine doses previously received.

01:02 The study only speaks to what happened among Cleveland Clinic employees who were the sample population in the study.

01:23 The study only discusses whether people tested positive for COVID-19 and does not discuss mortality or hospitalization rates.

01:39 There is potential for selection bias in this analysis due to differences in Cleveland Clinic employee types and their likelihood of getting vaccinated.

Implications

03:26 This study may give pause to those who believe it is important for otherwise healthy and younger people to get vaccinated over and over again.

04:52 Vaccines are still very important for high-risk individuals such as elderly individuals, for which there's been some good evidence that they help with severe disease and death.

Overall, this transcript provides insights into a peer-reviewed study that raises questions about vaccine efficacy against COVID-19. While there are limitations to this particular analysis, it highlights potential issues with selection bias and emphasizes the importance of vaccination for high-risk individuals.

05:48 FDA Approval and Vaccine Mandates

Section Overview: The speaker discusses the lack of FDA approval for some vaccines and questions the effectiveness of mandating vaccines, especially for young people.

Lack of FDA Approval [ie: FDA’s truncated approval process]

05:48 Some vaccines did not go through much FDA approval and were not tested on [samples of] the general population.

06:05 The study shows that some vaccines do not work on recent forms of COVID.

06:25 The criteria for choosing which types of pharmaceuticals don't need to go through the entire FDA approval process is arbitrary, especially with new technology like mRNA.

Effectiveness of Vaccine Mandates

06:51 Before the pandemic, there was a theoretical world where vaccine mandates made sense.

07:14 After seeing the government's response to all of this and thinking about how people react to incentives, the speaker questions whether mandating vaccines is necessary.

07:37 During Alpha, the vaccine showed major reductions in disease incidence and possibly deaths associated with the disease. However, mortality rates among young people were incredibly low.

08:00 Over half of young people who caught COVID didn't even show symptoms. Asymptomatic cases are less likely to cause contractions [be contagious] than symptomatic cases.
