Bluegrass is overflowing with virtuoso fiddlers. So what makes Katie the best of the best?

Most fiddle virtuosos are terrific at their solo breaks. Otherwise they are, maybe, "pretty good" at backup

But Katie's fiddle is, shall we say, super-conscious of everything going on, blending and honing with unbelievable subtlety. While she's a really outtasight crackerjack on her solos, she also has an ear for the structural and musical whole (or "gestalt"), making her contribution very impressive.

Btw, Matt is also expert at fine-grained, subtle backup with voice and guitar.
